Services + Purpose

The Southern Boulevard Business Improvement District, established in 2007, promotes the growth, vitality and visibility of the premiere shopping destination in the Hunts Point section of the South Bronx.  Organizational programs include real estate advisory and retail services, sanitation and security departments that augment the city’s own services, small business development services, streetscape and open space improvements, horticulture installations, robust public programming, event planning, and visitor services.

The Southern Boulevard Business Improvement District is a 501(c)3 public-private partnership governed by a Board of Directors and derives the majority of its revenue from an annual assessment on all real property located within the boundaries of the BID.  Members of the BID include property owners, businesses, hotels, restaurants, retailers, cultural and non-profit institutions, public officials and residents.

We work with member merchants to promote and advocate for all locally owned businesses in the neighborhood. We share common concerns and want to ensure that all our businesses successfully contribute to the economic and social vitality of the community. In order to grow our local businesses and advocate for community needs we speak as a collective voice and address issues like public safety, sanitation, promotion, and street beautification.

Public Safety

In partnership with NYPD, NYC Department of Transportation, the New York City Council, and community organizations, the Southern Boulevard BID works to improve public safety conditions in the area. From potholes, to better lighting, to reducing crime, we work diligently to address public safety issues which impact our community

From advocating for more waste receptacles, to working with the private sector to remove graffiti, debris, weeds and overgrown foliage, the Southern Boulevard BID provides a collective voice with the mission of bettering the community in which we live.

Beautification + Public Programming

Street festivals, block parties, lectures, bar crawls, green space development, and beautification measures help make a neighborhood feel like a community.  Southern Boulevard BID seeks to organize and promote the area while also building a beautiful, safe, and clean community for long time residents.
