On the Boulevard

From The Director:

The BID has a tremendous amount of influence in the community. In March we began to complain to the Department of Transportation that Westchester Avenue by Simpson Street was extremely too dark and has been for years. In response to our advocacy the Department of Transportation agreed to install four new bracket arms onto the existing lampposts. These additional brackets will be installed by the end of September. This will brighten up the area significantly. We are also taking on the issue of street vendors. When we heard from business owners that the street vendors were interfering in their business, we began to put pressure on the police to move the vendors from in front of stores. This issue continues to be dealt with by the BID. Next week we will participate in a hearing being held by the City to hear from people affected by street vendors. We will go to the hearing and represent the issues that were brought to us. I will bring information back from the hearing and share it with you all. Please call us with your concerns about the district and let us see what we can do to alleviate the situation.
